GEO: getting your business named in AI answers
More and more buyers skip the search results page. They ask an AI assistant a question and act on the answer it gives. If your business is not in that answer, you were never in the running.
What GEO means
Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is the work of making your brand easy for AI systems to find, trust and quote. It sits beside classic SEO rather than replacing it: most assistants still read the open web, so the pages that rank well are often the pages they cite.
Three things that move the needle
- Answer real questions plainly. Pages that state a clear answer near the top get quoted more often than pages that circle the topic.
- Be consistent everywhere. Your name, services and location should read the same on your site, your Google Business Profile and the directories you are listed in.
- Show proof. Specific numbers, case studies and named authors give a model a reason to trust you over a vague competitor.
Where to start
Pick the five questions your customers ask most before they buy. Write one strong page for each, then check what ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity say when you ask those questions yourself. That gap is your GEO plan.
